How Typing Speed Rankings Work
SureTyping leaderboards rank typists by their best words-per-minute score recorded during typing tests. Every completed test is eligible — there are no minimum word counts or special modes required. Rankings update in real time, so a new personal best immediately moves you up the board.
You can filter by time period to compare daily, weekly, or all-time performance. Daily leaderboards reset at midnight UTC, giving everyone a fresh start each day. All-time rankings show the fastest scores ever recorded on the platform, regardless of when they were set.
What Makes a Good Typing Speed?
The average typing speed for most adults is around 40 words per minute. Touch typists who have practised regularly tend to sit between 60 and 80 WPM. Competitive typists and professionals often exceed 100 WPM, with the fastest typists on record reaching 200 WPM or more in short bursts. Where you land on the leaderboard depends on both raw speed and consistency — a high WPM with low accuracy will not rank as well as a slightly slower but cleaner run.
Improving Your Ranking
The most effective way to climb the leaderboard is structured practice rather than repeated speed tests. SureTyping's lesson paths build clean muscle memory for every key, and the AI trainer targets the specific keys and bigrams where you lose the most time. Consistent daily practice on weak spots compounds into real speed gains over weeks — which is how most top-ranked typists got there.
